Faulty seat belt a factor in fatal Illinois car crash

Occupants of motor vehicles are likely aware of the potential of being involved in an accident. However,  many passengers choose to protect themselves from the actions of a negligent driver by taking certain precautions, such as ensuring that their seat belts are secured. Unfortunately, a man in Illinois recently lost his life in a car crash that could ultimately result in a wrongful death personal injury claim.

The incident that led to the 26-year-old man's death reportedly happened one afternoon on a day in November. According to reports, the 18-year-old male driving the car in which the now-deceased victim was riding lost control. As a result, the car is said to have struck a utility pole before rolling several times.

The victim was reportedly thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Police say that his seat belt was not working properly. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

While many of the details regarding the Illinois car accident are unclear, it is clear that a family is likely now coming to terms with the news of their loved one's unexpected death. In addition to emotional distress, many families often suffer financially due to lost wages and funeral expenses. As such, those who face such a loss as a result of a car crash caused by another's negligence often choose to pursue recompense by filing a wrongful death lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases can help identify all parties who may potentially hold responsibility; in a case such as this, this could include both the alleged driver as well as the car manufacturer if a known defect led to the malfunctioning seat belt.
